This was the view Thursday afternoon. It's hard to believe that on January 15th, it was merely a slab of concrete. Tanner and I had to pick up the foundation survey for the morgage company after school and then we headed straight there. It was finally daylight and we couldn't wait to get inside. There were people working everywhere. Some were downstairs, some upstairs, some on the exterior and another group on the roof. We are almost "in the dry". The tar paper is now on the roof and most of the windows have been installed. Shingles should arrive any day now. Our brick is backordered and should be here by the middle of February. There is a tray ceiling in the master bedroom and another one over the tub in the master bath. Those have been framed now. The electrician and the plumber also came today.I was very excited to see the island in the kitchen coming together. They had the wood cut in the curved shape and nailed to the floor. Then came tall posts (probably 15-20 of them) and then 2 more curved pieces of wood nailed to the top. Then I realized that it was way too tall! I asked and thank goodness he spoke English. He went back to the plans and it had to be cut down from 45 inches to 34 1/2 inches. It appeared to be no big deal to him. He took it apart and put it back together in no time at all. I still felt a little guilty. Pa assured me that it was fine. I think Pa spends more time there than we do. (Thanks for supervising, Pa! Be careful, Steve and Tony may put you on the payroll soon.)
The winter storm is here. I can hear the freezing rain as I type. It is expected to turn to snow by lunchtime, possible up to 6 inches! No school today, so the kids and I will enjoy the snow.
