Brick Drama

I was shocked to get a text this afternoon from Pa saying that the roof was "looking good". We've had rain and you guessed it.....more snow. I had no idea that they would be able to work today. It is freezing outside! They worked late this afternoon and plan to completely finish the roof tomorrow. When I stopped by after school the front was just about finished! (The part over the front porch is going to be a metal roof.)

We got a call from the builder today. Our bricks were scheduled to ship out yesterday. (They've been back ordered.) Apparently they came today, but instead of delivering them to the building site.....they brought a few of the bricks straight to the builder. This cannot be a good sign! We chose an Acme brick called Winter Frost. It is a white brick with hammered edges. The bricks they brought are far from white. They appear to be yellow with white glitter sprinkled on the face. They look very much like a sugar cookie! Since we really don't want to live in a gingerbread house, we have to come up with Plan B.

We have the option of having them try again with another batch of the same brick. The time frame would be about 3 weeks (with no guarantee that the same thing won't happen again). I had Michelle call to see if they had another white brick in stock and they did. It is called Silver Creek. It is a shade or two lighter than the one we picked and it has perfectly square edges. It still has a rustic look like the one we originally chose. I think it will be fine, but I brought the sample board home for David to take a peek. The brick guys are going to bring out a few of the bricks tomorrow so we can see what the actual batch looks like before we decide. (Important homebuilder tip.........the actual bricks may or may not look anything like the sample boards that they provide. Who knew? I guess you live and learn.)

I also got a call today from Robin at the lighting store. In all the chaos I forgot to call her back. Sorry, Robin! I promise I'll call tomorrow! David leaves tomorrow morning for a trip to Mississippi. He'll be gone for a couple of days. Hopefully the brick situation will be taken care of before he gets back!
